KX-RJ5171 Installation
OVERVIEW
The KX-RJ5171 is a Translation Cable designed specifically for use with the Panasonic KX-NS700 PBX in the United States and with KX-NS500 & KX-NS300 PBXs in other world markets.
Translation Cables are used whenever Digital Telephones, Analog Single Line Telephones, Loop Start Central Office Trunks or Door Phones are being deployed on these systems.
Refer to the complete list of Translation Cables in Table 1.

EZCORDS transform the non-standard and/or high-density pin-out used on the NS Series PBX into separate RJ45 jacks with Industry Standard EZ pin-outs. Once the jacks are Industry Standard, they may be plugged into a patch panel for delivery to wall outlets throughout the building.
Optionally, the single non-standard, high-density circuit on the Panasonic NS Series PBX can be plugged directly into a House Patch Panel and then the Translation Cable installed at the far end. This technique sometimes works well when there are a limited number of Category 5/6 cables feeding an office.
The KX-RJ5171 Translation Cable plugs directly into a single jack on the face of a Panasonic EXTN1-2 Built-in Digital Line Card. Once inserted, it routes the card’s circuit to 2 separate orange-colored DIGITAL jacks, each wired to pins 3 & 6, which is the Panasonic wiring scheme for digital devices.
At the jack end of the Translation Cable, there are 2 short, staggered whips as illustrated in Figure 1. The shortest whip is Circuit #1 and the longest whip is Circuit #4, as illustrated below. Certain Panasonic documentation also refers to these circuits as A & B but it is all the same.

VIDEO TUTORIAL
Sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words. We know this and so we have created a video for each of our cords. If you would like to see how the KX-RJ5171 is used, simple click here:

INSTALLATION – METHOD A
Step-1: Verify that the ports on the Panasonic NS Series EXTN1-2 card are properly programmed.
Step-2: At the PBX, plug the 8-pin, RJ45 plug of the KX-RJ5171 Translation Cable into the jack on the face of the EXTN1-2 Built-in Digital Line Card.
Step-3: Test the EZCORD by simply plugging a Panasonic DPT (Digital Proprietary Telephone), a DSS/BLF (Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field) Console or a VM (Voice Mail) Port directly into either of the 2 orange-colored jacks labeled “DIGITAL.”
Step-4: Insert an Industry Standard, 8-pin patch cord of a length appropriate for your application into Jack #1 and then plug the other end of that patch cord into the patch panel port that you are using.
Step-5: Repeat Steps 3 & 4 for circuit #2 using an additional patch panel port if necessary.
INSTALLATION – METHOD B
Step-1: Verify that the ports on the Panasonic NS Series EXTN1-2 card are properly programmed.
Step-2: At the PBX, plug the 8-pin, RJ45 plug of the KX-RJ5171 Translation Cable into the jack on the face of the EXTN1-2 Built-in Digital Line Card.
Step-3: Plug the other end of the patch cord into the port on the Patch Panel that feeds the location that you are adding phones to.
Step-4: At the far end, plug the 8-pin RJ45 plug of the KX-RJ5171 Translation Cable into the other end of the cable that you used on the patch panel (usually a wall outlet).
Step-5: Plug a Panasonic DPT (Digital Proprietary Telephone), a DSS/BLF (Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field) Console or a VM (Voice Mail) Port into the orange-colored Jack #1 labeled “DIGITAL.”
Step-6: Repeat Step 5 for circuit #2 if necessary.
EZCORDS are passive devices, meaning that they have no electronics that could go bad.

NOTE (*):
The DHLC4 card can be split into either two (2) 4-wire Hybrid Ports or 2 Digital Ports PLUS 2 Analog Ports using the XDP feature. The KX-RJ5170 Translation Cable has 2 Hybrid jacks. The KX-RJ5179 Transition Cable has 2 Digital jacks and 2 Analog jacks.
